What a good lawn care estimate includes
- Your business name and contact details — and the client's.
- An estimate number and date, plus how long the price is valid.
- Line items with a clear description, quantity, unit price, and amount.
- Subtotal, tax (at your local rate), and the total — no surprises later.
- Notes and terms: what's included, what's excluded, deposit and payment terms.
- State whether pricing is per visit, per month, or per full season, and how many cuts that covers — a 'season' in your region might be 26 mows or 30, so name the number so the client isn't surprised in November.
- Itemize one-off services separately from recurring service: aeration, overseeding, dethatching, spring/fall cleanup, and fertilizer rounds should each have their own line, not be buried in the mowing rate.
- Quote by lot or turf size (sq ft) and note slope, fencing, or obstacles — a half-acre with tight gates and beds to trim around costs more per cut than open flat turf, so write the basis for the price.
- Spell out what's NOT included: bagging/hauling clippings, leaf removal past a set volume, weed control, irrigation repair, and disposal fees — and note extra charges for tall/overgrown first cuts.
- Put a validity window on the quote (e.g. good for 30 days) and tie fertilizer/herbicide pricing to current material cost, since seasonal product and fuel prices move.
