Common questions
How many tons is a cubic yard of gravel?
Around 1.4 tons per cubic yard for ¾" gravel — sand runs about 1.35 and screening about 1.5. Your supplier's number is the real one; the density field is editable for exactly that reason.
How deep should a gravel base be?
Common hardscape bases run 6" for patios and walkways and 8–10" for driveways, compacted in lifts — but soil and climate change the answer. Enter the depth your job calls for.
Why add waste for compaction?
Granular base compacts roughly 10–20% from loose delivery to finished density. The waste field covers that loss so the last lift doesn't come up short.
